FROM: HOUSTON CHRONICLE BLOG
HEAD: Is "black hole" a racially insensitive term?
SUB-HEAD: Apparently to some.
From the City Hall Blog at the Dallas Morning News:
A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and
bizarre this afternoon.
County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections
office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other
paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central
collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has
become lost in the office.
Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud
"Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a
"white hole."
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from
Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.
Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term.
Judge Jones should be very glad that the central collections office has not
become a white hole, a theoretical object that ejects matter from beyond its
event horizon, rather than sucking it in. It wouldn't be fun for Dallas to
find itself so near a quasar.
Anyone wanting to know a good deal about black holes should read the
excellent new book, The Black Hole War, by Leonard Susskind, which has just
been released. I'm in the middle of it, and the book's a fascinating tour of
modern physics written for the layman. It's just been marvelous so far.

Why do you think he responded "white hole?" That's all they think about
these days.

Read Nietzsche; it is the duty of the superior to put up with the |
injustice from the inferior. We can afford to humor the niggers. As
mental defectives, we dont wish to have them upset. We do the same for
little children and the senile. |

And let's not forget the prisoners in American jails.

To my knowledge, you don't go to prison for smoking "a little" weed.

Depends on the juris-dict-ion and whether the officer is a dick. |
The first time the cops searched my house, they didnt find anything. The
last word from the captain was "Next time we'll bring some in case you
are out again." They should have. the next two times they didnt find
anything either.
The 4th time, they busted my halloween party and arrested me for drugs
guests dropped on the floor on their way out. The judge threw that case
out. They didnt find anything the 5th or 6th time either.
The last time, what they thot was a crank lab was just chemicals and
supplies a chem grad student had stored in my barn. They should have had
a search warrant that time too, cause by then I had a PC and printed 200
copies of a true report since the local newspaper would not. I dropped
them off at convenience stores all over the county, and the sheriff had
to withdraw his candidacy for re-election. Several in the DEA and state
drug control office had to find new careers.
You just have no idea how corrupt the system is Ray cause nobody in the
media will say anything about it. |
