Admittedly, I'm not one who reads much in the way of books.
But James Van Praagh was recently in Denver, promoting his
new book 'Ghosts Among Us', prompting a friend to purchase
a signed copy, which he read and subsequently loaned to me.

It's a short book, eleven chapters, a couple hundred pages,
and because the subject matter is generally familiar to me,
I was able to finish reading the book in a few short hours.
I found this work entertaining, anecdotal, and informative,
especially considering Praagh's unique psychic proficiency.

I would offer a few criticisms, minor points of contention,
but I find the vast majority of what James Van Praagh says
and writes too agreeable to argue over a few crossed t's &
dotted i's. Plus, I am not the psychic medium. I don't see
and hear and communicate with active full-body apparitions
of dead people in my waking state. But like most people, I
do this while asleep, thus actively dreaming in the Astral,
doing things that ghosts do, passing through walls, flying
through the air, and underground, haunting, usual activity,
interacting with and oftentimes avoiding fellow ghosts, be
they incarnate or discarnate. And this is very commonplace.
But I also have clairvoyant dreams, and by this I mean the
distant future and past, by seeing it in the present while
dreaming and also while day-dreaming--both of which I do a
lot. That seems to be my forte. I'm not a conscious medium.
Whereas Van Praagh is a medium. I trust he knows what he's
talking about, from his viewpoint i.e. from his experience.

For example, in chapter ten, "Protection" [pp 175-194], he
gives some really good advice on avoiding "psychic attack".
JVP's natal Mercury 3 Sun, Communication, the Gemini twins,
makes him a natural for transceiving, or exchanging energy,
thus it's no surprise that he says this works well for him.

And some mediums have put themselves into the "lion's den"
of hauntings, as Derek Acorah often did with 'Most Haunted'
allowing himself to be possessed, sometimes by really evil
spirits, which had to have taken its toll. David Wells and
other mediums seem to be more "gun-shy" in this regard and
perhaps not as sensitive or vulnerable to demon possession
(in chapter nine JVP calls this trance-channel mediumship)
as a physical medium. The Astral the nearest of our silver,
thus Moon sojourns (e.g. JVP, Acorah) are most susceptible
in Cancer where the "unsettling motion" of emotion is felt.

JVP gives several short "protection exercises" and several
"quick and easy protection techniques", classical examples
which you can learn in Hinduism, transcendental meditation,
prayer, any number of "new age" books, etc. Even so, it is
still good advice, to purge your psyche of maligned energy.

Looks good on paper, but in actual practice this is not so
easy. We have to stop sinning, and we have to work off the
balance of our karma. That's how Jesus became Jesus Christ,
being born with God, born without sin, born Immortal, born
with no outstanding debts and no negative thought-energies
whatsoever. And this took the Immortal soul of Him perhaps
two thousand mortal incarnations -and- discarnate sojourns
to get it exactly right. So while I foremostly respect JVP
and other highly gifted mediums, myriad psychic detectives,
for doing what they do, yet they are mortal, fallible, and
vulnerable to err. They say things like "nobody's perfect",
and yet the Light is perfect. Or they'll say "nobody knows
why", yet the Light knows absolutely everything, who, what,
why, where, when, and how. E.g., why do some souls, ghosts,
get caught in recycling punishments, as classic Greek myth
recounts? You see, the Light knows why. So all you need to
do is ask the Light, and the Light provides the answer for
you. And some, not all, but some of this we can learn from
reading the bible, and other perhaps obscure S. scriptures,
answers like Guilt, Conscience, Memory, Karma, Incarnation.
You see, these are clear answers to not so clear questions.

Most of this we learn by Experience, having been there and
done that, for better and for worse, having seen it, heard
it, felt it, tasted it, smelt it (Brit pt, pp), personally.
It's all there in the Crystalline Memory of the earth, who
is called Mnemosyne, the Earth Mother of the Muses by Zeus.

Personally, I find the best protection exercise, technique,
is to Remember in superconscious clarity, concentric focus.
So there is no need to repeat that which can be Remembered
by anyone at anytime, all men being Created equal. Even so,
there are a lot of good books out there, helpful books, on
all manner of studies and practices, related to the Occult.
Some of them are helpful, and informative, books by Praagh,
and by other gifted psychic mediums, psychics, etc. But in
this great big world, such works are one in a thousand, at
best. Even the Bible, hands-down the most flawless book in
the world, has some minor errors in it, albeit few and far
between, not by how the inept criticize it, but by how the
Light is perfect, illuminating even the slightest flaws in
every work made by the hands of man, even the flaws within
men...perfection being unreachable for mortals, attainable
only by Immortals, meaning the Olympians defeat the Titans.

While you remember, thus see your own ego-self objectively,
a.k.a. "if you meet me on the path kill me", meaning allow
your Immortal God-Self to subdue the mortal incarnate-self,
you'll no longer think negatively about the world, as evil
as the worldly, the fallen, the damned, of this evil world
are. Even the worst of them shall eventually pay the Piper,
so there's no reason to even mention the subtle tip of the
iceberg of corruption which this world is verily guilty of
and shall thusly be Judged. So it's best to avoid them and
stay away from them. Focus on nature, and beauty, and love.
Accept that all sinners must eventually reap what they sow,
from the greatest to the least. The Light holds the answer.

So all the evils of this world? Let the dead bury the dead.
We oughtn't hate, or curse, the dead. So why hate or curse
the living? The change comes, and behold, it comes quickly.
And JVP is right that there's no death, but interpretation
of death. It's been called the "Equalizer". And that it is.

For example, Hitler's Germany looked very different in the
1930s, than it did in hindsight to future generations once
the dark secrets of the Nazis became widely publicized--to
the extent that history is written by the victors. But few
doubt the systematic atrocities and unspeakable injustices
committed not only by inhuman Nazis, but also by all sides
involved in the global holocaust, enslavement, and war for
profit, corporate greed, political ambition, the Axis, the
Allied, many millions willingly participated and many more
unwillingly, each one according to their works of good and
works of evil. It's what's happening today, it's atrocious,
it's horrible, and there's nothing which can be done about
it short of World War III. Those who survive it will write
history from their perspective, seeing the SUPERPOWER, her
military, and the SUPERCORRUPT, herself, for what they are,
rather, for what they were, and the vast complicity of the
kings of the earth. Thus to see clearly is to Remember and
remember clearly, in superconscious clarity, in the Air by
the elements, the trinity, commencing in the seventh house,
that of the other self. So it's a perfectly natural desire
for mediums to want to help others. But those they wish to
help may not want to be helped. At that point, there's not
much anyone can do about it. You can lead a horse to water...

In closing, I really enjoyed reading 'Ghosts Among Us'. It
covers a lot of important subject matter in a very concise
way. Perhaps that's my only complaint, that the book might
be a little too short, like a good movie that you wish was
about an hour longer than it is.
