The gun-nut lobby couldn't care less about what kid finds Daddy's
gun and decides to play "Cowboy" or "Cops & Robbers"
and shoots his little brother. They will just say, "too bad,
keep it locked up - not my fault!" and won't admit how resourceful
kids can be about getting into stuff.
What a load of propaganda, is the talk about "self-defense".
If a robber on the street puts a gun to the back of your head,
you're best off to hand over your wallet instead of reaching
for a gun, even if you have it on you. If you get hit by a bullet from a
drive-by shooting, from some punk that has gun that was
blessed by a lobby-pandering GOP, you wouldn't have time
to get your gun.
If you *did* have an intruder, you could disarm him just
as well with tear-gas or stun gun. The Right-Wing loonies
mostly don't have to worry about drive-by shootings, because
they wouldn't live anywhere but a lily-white, Ozzie-and-Harriet
neighborhood. And, as is predictable, they couldn't care LESS
about poor or minority neighborhoods that really are plagued
with gun violence.
The media has been repulsive, glowing about the Supreme
Court decision, like was was enshrining the loftiest and
most noble of human basic rights, and acting as if there
was a broad public groundswell of support, which is bull.
I think that a majority of the public is fed up with routine gun violence,
but the media is crawling more, all the time, with right-wing
propaganda toadies.
When gays were treated like felon criminals, it barely crossed their radar,
in contrast. Right to intimate relations with your own life-partner
isn't nearly as big of a deal as the precious right to own a piece
of hardware that can blow half your skull off.
Cutting the grounding prong off of an electrical plug-
oh, that is illegal because it is unsafe. But something
that can kill in hearbeat, when there are effective alternatives,
oh, that's just fine.
Makes you want to get a gun, sometimes, alright.
The Left ought to mirror the kind of language that conservatives use:
Right-wing activist judges caved in to a militant minority of kinky
gun-fetishists, and invented a new "right" that was not really
in the Constitution. I really wouldn't care what Freudian reasons make
them get so turned on by their big, BIG GUNs, and couldn't care
what they do with their guns in the privacy on their homes, as long
as they keep them locked up and out of sight. But when they want
to parade on the streets, it is time to put them back in their place- which
is in jail, for illegal gun possession. This complete outrage, and the will of
the people, have been ignored by a conservative-biased media.
