Just make sure to include a self-addressed return label and postage.

New Scientist always has adverts for a book titled "How to Fossilize

What? Really? My kid would love that ;)

She doesn't like hamsters?

RUN, Mr. Hamster! Run for your furry, hugely-testicled little life!

Perhaps she just likes them better as fossils. Lower maintenance, you
know.

There's another good book, "A Guinea Pig's History of Biology." One
tidbit that I found interesting was the early use of Guinea Pigs as
research animals. Rats were considered "unclean". One area of research
was scurvy. At the time, it was not known if it was a nutritional
deficiency, a toxin, or an infectious process. By happy coincidence,
guinea pigs, but not rats, also depend on dietary Vitamin C. If they had
been using rats when researching the nature of scurvy, they would have
been thrown off the scent for a long time.

Is one *required* to use a cute, personable mammal? Might one use,
say, a gecko?

Or a creationist?

Or a pet rock?

Yes, there is a difference, the rock eats less and is smarter.

Don't forget, rocks are better able to adapt to new information.
