Republicans bitching and whining about Obama will not work IF that is
the main theme of their campaign to win the White House. Attacking
Obama is fine and necessary, but a politcal campaign has to be more
FOR something than merely AGAINST something. Many democrats and
liberals are PSYCHED to vote in November because they are FOR Obama.
Many Republicans are saying they may vote only because they don't want
Obama. They are not voting FOR McCain.
If THIS is the main message conservatives want to send across the
nation--especially to independents and Reagan-Democrats--, they will
certainly lose. People are generally far less likely to go to the
polls, stand in line, and vote AGAINST something than FOR something.
The MORALIZED are far more likely to vote than the DEMORALIZED who'd
just like to stay home.
Conservatives need to emphasize the Positive qualities of McCain.
The failure to do so in 1992 for Bush I led to the Presidency of Bill
Clinton. Some conservatives welcome an Obama presidency in the hope
that it will lead to another Carter presidency which will then usher
in a new era of conservatism. History does NOT repeat itself. Obama
may well luck out like Bill Clinton and ride the tide of economic
recovery and take all the credit--along with the Democratic Congress.
Then, it will mean another long domination of Democrats much like the
Democratic ascendancy with FDR in the 1930s. Though Obama's economic
policies may not be sound, raising the top tax rate to 40% will NOT
destroy the economy. Indeed, as with the Clinton tax hikes, it might
boost the economy in the short run.
And, all this conservative fearmongering about higher spending under
Obama doesn't pack much of a punch when Republicans have spent like
crazy under Bush. And, if most most conservatives were so upset with
Republicans who proposed and supported all this spending under Bush,
why didn't they replace the profligate Republican Congressmen with
fiscally responsible Republicans? Republicans had a chance in 2002
and 2004 but kept re-electing the same guys.
Also, many Americans figure they've paid enough in taxes and WANT more
back from the government. For many Americans, paying taxes is their
idea of saving. So, if a rainy day comes, many Americans look to
government for support. This is very stupid, but we must also keep in
mind that the businesses--capitalism--has hooked countless Americans
to consumerism whereby you don't feel alive unless you spend and spend
and then borrow and spend some more. Socialist mentality has made
Americans addicted to government, and consumerist mentality has made
Americans hooked to profligate spending--even money they don't have;
your average Ameican spends money like a congressman, Democratic or
Republican. And, since borrowing has been made so easy and there's no
stigma attached to declaring bankruptcy anymore in our increasingly
shameless society, many people have become accustomed to a good life
based on debt--just like government.
Out-of-control consumerist capitailsm feeds into socialism. A lot of
poor people and young people spend all their earnings on stupid and
trivial stuff because they think they must CONSUME to feel alive. When
times are bad, they have no savings left, can't borrow anymore, and
look to government.
And, with the upperbracket making more money than ever before, the
vast majority of Americans don't care if the rich are 'soaked' a
little more. If Republicans are really smart, they should support tax
hikes for the superrich--those making over millions a year. Most
Americans don't feel much bitterness at those making $100,000s a year
or even a million a year, but they aren't happy about those making 10s
or 100s of millions of year, especially when certain CEOs have
received huge raises or outrageous severance packages for laying off
thousands of workers with families. Personally, it would be better if
Americans expressed their outrage outside government channels. So, if
a corporation rewards some CEO with 20 million for laying off 10,000
workers, Americans should unite thru civic channels to boycott that
company. That would be American people speaking up without the
government getting involved.
One reason why conservatives shouldn't compare Obama with Carter is
there is no Cold War, no Soviet threat, and other stuff that brought
down the Carter presidency. For many Americans, the Bush II presidency
has been the Ford/Carter Presidencies rolled into one, and Obama seems
like the Reaganesque--and Kennedyian--figure.
Also, the economy will likely hit its lows later this year and start
to recover. Whoever's in the White House will, fairly or unfairly,
take all the credit for that and will be poised to win reelection in
2012. Raising taxes will NOT necessarily weaken the economy, at least
not in the short term. In the short term, it will release much REAL
money--as opposed to borrowed money--into the overall economy thru
government spending. Much of rich folks' money is not being invested
but merely in sitting in the bank. Government taking and spending that
money will be an economic boon for at least a few several years.
Keynesianism doesn't work forever but it can do wonders in the
shortrun, especially when so many rich people are afraid to invest
their money due to economic worries--as during the Great Depression.
Bill Clinton raised taxes, and the economy didn't suffer one bit. It
would have been better if Bush II had kept the Clinton tax rate and
checked spending than cutting taxes AND raising taxes, which was
REALLY dumb.
Anyway, the emphasis on attacking Obama while not championing McCain
makes conservatives come across as bitter, resentful, nasty, venomous,
and saturated with negativism. Sean Hannity says 'Stop the Obama
Express' but how does one stop a locomotive with growing momentum? The
only way to win is to get the Mack Truck Express going and speed past
the Obama Express. This must be won the Nascar way, not the stand-on-
the-tracks-to-stop-the-train way. But, no conservative wants to help
McCain rev up his engine and hit the road. With gas prices hitting new
highs--not least because of radical environmentalism--, McCain ought
to do a TV ad with truckers on the highway. Each truck can carry the
sign "Drill" "Now" "Drill" "Here" and etc. McCain can sit next to a
trucker. The ad can end with an image of fighter jet flying across the
sky and McCain pensively looking at it and saluting it. And, someone
should write one of those trucker's song like in the movie Convoy.
THAT, and not some lame ABBA song, should be the campaign tune for the
Mack Truck Express.
Now, notice that Democrats are all charged up because they are more
FOR Obama than AGAINST McCain. They love and admire Obama. For them,
McCain is just an non-issue who happens to be an obstacle in Obama's
path. Dems obsess over Obama's alleged greatness than McCain's
shortcomings, flaws, or sins. Sure, Dems will use all they got to
attack McCain but they'll do it out of love of Obama than hatred for
McCain. It's for this reason that more and more independent Americans
are leaning toward Obama than toward McCain. It's not just about the
choice between two candidates but the mood difference between the two
sides. The Obama side is hopeful, positive, and energized--no matter
how foolish and delusional they may be about their Messiah--, whereas
the conservative side mocks and attacks their own candidate but may
vote for him ONLY because they hate Obama more. How will this kind of
political mood and climate attract independents who want to vote for
Hope and a Better Future. Dems are saying, 'if you vote for Obama, the
future will be great'. Republicans are saying, 'if you vote for
McCain, future will suck but not as much as if Obama were to become
President'. Wow, what a positive, uplifting message!!
In 1980 Americans voted FOR Reagan more than AGAINST Carter. In 1984
Americans voted FOR Reagan, not against Mondale, who was not a
dislikable person. Reagan represented national pride, hope, renewal,
rebirth, confidence, and a yes-we-can message.
Obama has mastered the Reaganesque technique even as he seeks to
dismantle everything Reagan stood for. And, people go for image and
inspiration and all that jazz.
If the Obama side says 'YES, WE CAN', conservatives say, 'NO(we don't
like Mccain), but WE BETTER(vote for him because Obama sucks so
bad)'. This is all very stupid.
Whatever McCain's flaws, his virtues are so much greater than Obama's
that I fail to see why conservatives are so bitter, hateful, and
unforgiving. If Democrats and liberals are willing to overlook the
shortcoming of Obama--his lack of experience, his tawdry associations,
his compulsive lying, his playing the race-card, his corrupt deals,
his Chicago Machine sliminess, his dumb obnoxious wife, etc--, why
can't conservatives overlook some of McCain's failings?
And, just think of the positives. They far outshine all the bogus
chimera of the Obama candidacy. Obama really has done nothing and is
entirely a smoke and mirrors act. But, McCain's positives are truly
astounding.
1. He's a genuine war hero who never ratted on his friends or turned
on his country. He went thru great ordeal, overcame tremendous
physical and emotional suffering, and has served his country in
political office as he had in the military. So, there's the Theme of
Courage, Duty, and Heroism. When so many conservatives who beat the
war drum have no military credentails whatsoever or used the rich
man's way to dodge the draft--what Quayle and Bush II essentially
did--, it's great to have a war hero who really put his neck on the
line and played his strings out right to the end. Obama, unlike
McCain, will betray anyone anytime anywhere anyhow to gain in
politics. When McCain went against most Republicans, it was still out
of a personal sense of principles, integrity, and what he felt was
right. Obama is too slickity-slack with everything. He figures that as
long as he has hypnotic spell over many Americans--mainly because of
race-guilt-baiting and his celebrity style--, he can 'lie and steal
too good not to win'.
2. Obama flipflops and slips and slides this way and that way, like
the well-oiled Chicago Machine politician that he is. He has no sense
of honor or commitment. He'll do anything to get ahead. He'll cut
anyone in the front of the line. He's been used to being favored by
white liberal society for so long that he feels entitled to be
President. He'll throw anyone under the bus and shift alliances and
break promises at the drop of a hat. In contrast, McCain, under
horrible duress, didn't turn on his buddies nor on his country when he
was injured and tortured by the Vietnamese communists. There are the
themes of consistency and commitment. Had Obama been a POW, you bet he
would have denounced the US government just to save his own skin.
3. Though Obama hasn't done anything in his entire life, he acts like
he's the Messiah. He's a megalomaniac, a charming buffoon, an pompous
ass, a self-satisfied jerk, and braggart.
McCain, who's had a full life in the military and in politics doesn't
go around like he's the second coming of Jesus. He's running for the
Presidency, not for the post of Messiah. So, there is the theme of
humility. Genuine humility, not the bogus sham humility of Obama who
says his 'profound humility' has given him powers to heal the sick,
create jobs for everyone, and save the entire planet. Even Obama's
humility smacks of megalomania so what does that say about his
megalomania? He's humble in the way that Lenin or Che were humble.
Wanting all the power in the NAME OF THE PEOPLE.
4. Though McCain's been a conservative with conservative principles,
he hasn't been a kneejerk Republican who just goes along with the
bigwigs in the party. He has understood that different times call for
different solutions. And, it was for this reason that he hasn't been
tainted as most Republicans during the Bush yrs. When most Americans
think of the Republican Congress, they think of the sleaze of Tom
Delay, the dullness of Hastert, shamefulness of Foley, and the party
hack nothingness of just about everyone else. McCain has won the
party nomination and has earned the respect of many independent
Americans because he, more than most Republicans, stood apart from the
disastrous Bush presidency. It's not all Bush's fault, but these have
not been an inspiring 8 yrs. And, the Republican-dominated Congress
had grown lazy, corrupt, uninspired, and incompetent since Gingrich
left office. McCain stuck to his principles, and even if we disagree
with him on some, he's been an independent-minded senator with real
integrity. So, we have themes of independence and integrity, so
important when so much of our government seems lackluster, corrupt, or
cynical.
5. Though McCain's been a lifelong Republican, he's worked with
Democrats across the aisle on some issues. Though some people see
this as treason, American politics is about compromise, working
together, and finding common ground. Too many conservatives think
like Jacobins, and they've been this way since they won the 1994
election. Being principled in ideology is fine, but compromise is
necessary in reality. Many democrats called Clinton a turncoat and a
traitor for NAFTA and welfare reform, but he did what he felt was good
for the country. And, McCain's cooperation with Democrats on some
issues was, in his mind, for the better of the country, not to stab
conservatives in the back. Conservatives must not take it
personally. Without cooperation in Congress, NOTHING will be done.
Also, some conservatives hate McCain for having criticized
conservatives or conservative positions. But, some degree of self-
criticism and airing dirty laundry are necessary. Had there been more
of that, Republicans could have avoided much of the corruption
scandals that came to haunt the party in the 2006 election. So, there
are the themes of cooperation, compromise, and bi-partisanship--which
is what the American people want. The great majority of Americans
disagree with the purism of Rush Limbaugh.
6. McCain has served his country for a long time in the military and
in politics. If anyone's paid his dues, McCain has. This could not be
said of Bush II. And, it certainly cannot be said of Obama whose score
of achievement is a big fat ZERO. Obama's credentials for the
Presidency is surely the most miserable in all of American history.
Community agitator;crooked Chicago Machine politician; tons of cash
shoved into his pocket by rich, influential, and powerful people;
favoritism all along the way; darling of lapdog media; a god to
secular academic free-thinkers which proves that academics are neither
as secular as they claim nor capable of free rational thought.
McCain has Paid His Dues. Obama has been paid in spades.
7. McCain's record hasn't been perfect. There was that thing with the
Keating Five. But, McCain has admitted his mistakes, been forthright
about them, and really grown as a man in terms of ethics, principles,
and political wisdom. There is the theme of remorse, growth, honesty,
and redemption.
And, there are other themes as well.
Conservatives need to Reaganize McCain instead of just trying to
Carterize Obama. The latter will not work because Obama's snake-oil
salesman charisma is doing the trick. Americans don't see him as
Carter even though his views may be much the same. Actually, Carter
was much more moderate than Obama. Obama, though opportunistic, has
been molded by radical leftist ideology. His presidency will be more
like the first term for Henry Wallace the Soviet sympathizer--vice-
president under FDR.
Conservatives MUST STOP the McCain bashing. Don't bitch about your
beard when you're about to lose your head. Obama as president along
with a Democratic Congress will expand government like never before,
which will only be good in the short-term. And, once entitlements
spread and the masses grow addicted to new spending, it will become
nearly impossible to reverse them. Just look how difficult it was to
reform welfare. It took three decades, and even so, not enough was
done. And, the societal damage it has already done is much harder to
reverse.
Also, keep in mind that Obama as president will be worshipped by the
national press. Also, the Democratic Congress will use the "Fairness
Doctrine" to close down the ONLY voice in the mainstream media that
speaks to liberal power. So, all those conservative Talk Show hosts
who keep bashing McCain and discouraging conservatives from voting for
him, do so at your own peril.
Conservatives must elevate and mythify the many genuine strengths and
qualities of John McCain. Yes, discuss the negatives of Obama but
make that a side issue to the worthiness of McCain. Democrats and
liberals--politicians, celebrities, academics, grass roots groups,
national media, etc--are doing EVERYTHING to win while conservatives
are bitching and whining that McCain is not a 100% ideological robot
of the GOP.
Whatever his faults, he's a genuine American hero and a legendary
figure with a real history, real service, real sacrifice, and real
achievements. That this country is overlooking this fine man for some
upstart political huckster is pathetic and shameful enough. That
conservatives are still groaning and whininig about McCain's
shortcomings when they--and their country--are facing the most radical
and dangerous threat to our ideas of liberty and freedom is even more
pathetic. |

The GOP couldn't find conservatism now, even if Goldwater and Reagan
came back and bit everyone in Fox News on the behind.
All they have now is fear of what is "liberal" (that is a word you
slap on anything you want opposed) and the "War on Terror"). They
have nothing else at all. Oh, maybe hatred of Mexicans, but that is
about it. They showed they don't care about balanced budgets, smaller
government or less regulations. And McCain shows almost none of this
either. All he has is the War on Terror. Ok, maybe the earmark
thing, but the GOP apparently doesn't care about smaller government at
all.

That's simply not true.
Talk to the Bush Republicans, and they say they were voting *against* high
taxes; *against* Clinton Democrats; *against* liberalism.
And today, if you ask most Democrats why they'll vote for Obama, they'll
tell you straight out - they're voting *against* Bush and McCain's failed
foreign and domestic policies. |

I will say that the moderates, such as myself, like McCain. The
evangelicals and extreme right don't have the corner of Republicans.
It seems the extremes in both parties have tried to hi-jack the
parties. I don't like Obama because he is an extreme liberal. He
thinks that taxpayers should provide health care, education and coddle
the worst of our population. I know the are some legitimate poor,
those who really need help, that is where charity comes in. America is
the most generous country on the continent. Obama seeks to take that
name away and call it rights of citizens and most of these people
Obama attracts are those who will let the taxpayers raise them. It is
downright sickening to compare Obama with JFK, If you read his "Ask
not what the country can do for you, speech", you will clearly see the
platforms are no way close. Kennedy spoke of helping others in the
world to overcome poverty and gain liberty for themselves. There were
alot of mistakes made in this Iraq war, but we have an obligation now
to see it through, not let those who have died, done so for nothing.
People have overlooked the opportunities we have now, in seeing the
Iraqi people living for the first time in liberty. They have a chance
to fight to keep it. The rest is up to them.
http://www.famousquotes.me.uk/speeches/John_F_Kennedy/5.htm
"The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands
the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human
life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears
fought are still at issue around the globe - the belief that the
rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the
hand of God."
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we
shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any
friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the
success of liberty.
This much we pledge - and more."
"All this will not be finished in the first 100 days. Nor will it be
finished in the first 1,000 days, nor in the life of this
Administration, nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But
let us begin." |

<snipped>
I have devised a scheme that would probably result in a presidential victory
for the Republicans. At least, a much better chance than they have now:
1- Within a week of the Republican convention, McCain heart attacks. He is
hospitalized and is withdrawn from contention, thus allowing the Republicans
to select a serious candidate.
2-The convention selects Romney as presidential and Rice as the vice
presidential candidate.
3-The Dems are thrown into some confusion, as they must plan new campaign
strategies.
4-Secretary Rice would nullify some of appeal Sen. Obama has for Blacks and
women. She is well qualified to function as a Cheney type vice president.
5-Gov. Romney is well qualified to function as a president. |

He figures that as
long as he has ...

Socialist mentality has made
Americans addicted to government, and consumerist mentality has made
Americans hooked to profligate spending--even money they don't have;
your average Ameican spends money like a congressman, Democratic or
Reagan represented national pride, hope, renewal,
rebirth, confidence, and a yes-we-can message.

inspiration and all that jazz.
If the Obama side says 'YES, WE CAN', conservatives say, 'NO(we don't

bad)'. This is all very stupid.
Whatever McCain's flaws, his virtues are so much greater than Obama's

unforgiving. If Democrats and liberals are willing to overlook the
shortcoming of Obama--his lack of experience, his tawdry associations,

his Chicago Machine sliminess, his dumb obnoxious wife, etc--, why
can't conservatives overlook some of McCain's failings?
And, just think of the positives. They far outshine all the bogus
chimera of the Obama candidacy. Obama really has done nothing and is
entirely a smoke and mirrors act. But, McCain's positives are truly
astounding.
1. He's a genuine war hero who never ratted on his friends or turned
on his country. He went thru great ordeal, overcame tremendous
physical and emotional suffering, and has served his country in
political office as he had in the military. So, there's the Theme of
Courage, Duty, and Heroism. When so many conservatives who beat the
war drum have no military credentails whatsoever or used the rich
man's way to dodge the draft--what Quayle and Bush II essentially

line and played his strings out right to the end.
Community agitator;crooked Chicago Machine politician; tons of cash
shoved into his pocket by rich, influential, and powerful people;
favoritism all along the way; darling of lapdog media; a god to
secular academic free-thinkers which proves that academics are neither
as secular as they claim nor capable of free rational thought.

All they have now is fear of what is "liberal" (that is a word you
slap on anything you want opposed) and the "War on Terror"). They
have nothing else at all. Oh, maybe hatred of Mexicans, but that is

Right.
Well maybe. These are demonstrably confusing times. Read Machiavelli to
avoid looking like a fool when you argue politics. Its not shortcomings
I am worried about. There are necessary things that Obama can do that
