Bush misused Iraq intelligence: Senate report
Thursday, 05 June 2008 12:33

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush and his top policymakers
exaggerated Saddam Hussein's links to terrorism and ignored doubts among
intelligence agencies about Iraq's arms programs as they made their case
for war, a Senate committee reported on Thursday.

The Senate intelligence committee said in a study that major Bush
administration statements that Iraq had a partnership with al Qaeda and
provided it with weapons training were unsupported by intelligence, and
sometimes contradicted it.

Police to Seal Off D.C. Neighborhoods
Thursday, 05 June 2008 10:46

Can you say Police State? The Examiner has the scoop on a controversial
new program announced today that would create so-called "Neighborhood
Safety Zones" which would serve to partially seal off certain parts of
the city. D.C. Police would set-up checkpoints in targeted areas, demand
to see ID and refuse admittance to people who don't live there, work
there or have a “legitimate reason” to be there.

"My Own Votes, Four of Them, Were Flipped Yesterday Before My Very Eyes"
Thursday, 05 June 2008 10:40

The ES&S electronic voting system that I used to try to vote on
yesterday, ended up flipping a total of 4 out of the 12 contests and
initiatives for which I had attempted to vote.

Right before my very eyes, the computer-printed ballot produced by the
voting system I was using, incorrectly filled in bubbles for four of the
races I was voting in. Had I not been incredibly careful, after the
ballot was printed out, to painstakingly compare what was printed to
what I actually voted for, I'd have never known my votes were being
given to candidates I did not vote for.

UN food summit accord held up over Cuban concerns
Thursday, 05 June 2008 10:14

ROME (AP) - Delegates in the closing hours of a three-day U.N. summit
were trying to agree Thursday on a final document on how to tackle
growing hunger and civil unrest sparked by skyrocketing prices of food
and fuel. But Cuba and some other Latin American countries were
insisting on language condemning embargoes, said Nick Parsons, a
spokesman for the Rome-based U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization,
which is hosting the summit.

The United States, a huge aid donor, opposes efforts to condemn its
long-running embargo against the communist-run island. The U.S.
delegation refused comment on the embargo snag because the closed-door
negotiations were in progress.

Guantanamo 9/11 suspects on trial
Thursday, 05 June 2008 09:45

The alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on the US is appearing at a
military tribunal in Guantanamo Bay. It is the first time Khalid Sheikh
Mohammed has appeared in public since he was captured in Pakistan in 2003.

....The BBC's Jonathan Beale - one of 60 journalists attending the trial
- says the hearings raise questions about the legitimacy of US military
commissions.

TVNL Comment: After being waterboarded by the CIA, Mahammed confessed to
more than 30 terrorist acts around the world. He would undoubtedly have
confessed to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, if that had been
demanded of him. This farce continues the myth that 9/11 was planned by
scapegoats selected by Bush/PNAC to take the fall.
