Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind,

words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins
like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer
thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations
of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
...
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, Shall he
that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him?
he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee?
I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
Job groveled like a bitch, didn't he? Talk about kissing the foot
that kicks you.
Which was par for the course at the time.
Job had every right to question God,
Not in a feudal society. What God was pointing out, in the usual
"beat the concept to death" style of Biblical writings, is that
unless you're one of God's peers, you have no such right to
question God's motivations. What's really troubling is that God
seems to imply He has Peers. Who, exactly, would these Peers be?
That's certainly a more interesting question than who created God.
since God was acting like an asshole.
It's the perogative of a lord to act like an asshole.
Read some history. The USA was founded because of the lords
being assholes.
Job would have been irrational not to question the actions
of God.
Only if Job had a Constitution that guaranteed his rights, otherwise,
all bets are off.
No, I think we all, as human beings, have an innate right to
question the actions of those who behave like assholes, even if they
are God. Which is to say, we can all recognize injustice, and it
doesn't matter who is committing the injustice, it is still
recognizable as such.
|
Recognizing an injustice doesn't necessarily
give you the right to act against it. Once Job
realized that he had no right to complain, he
shut up. It would have been irrational to continue
questioning knowing it wasn't going to get him
anywhere. That's not a concession. It remained
an injustice, but Job realized there was nothing
he could do about it.

: And who says the big bang had a creator?
Who says God had a creator? Same point that you want to ignore
when the topic is switched to God.
Romans 1:20 KJVR For the invisible things of him from the
creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the
things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that
they are without excuse:
Revelation 1:8 KJVR I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the
ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to
come, the Almighty.

That's great. I'm a fan of fiction too.

No, I do not want to discuss religion with you,
but thanks for the kind offer.
Andre the Giant was in Princess Bride. Wallace Shawn
and Andre had to leave Inigo Montoya to deal with Cary Elwes.
Andre advised Cary thusly: "Never trust a man who wears a mask."

Every believer creates his/her own god in his/her own mind.
There are millions of believers and so, millions of gods,
each is diferent from the others.
The writers compiled in the Bible illutsrate my point.
Their gods are all different, although they often use
the same name. -- L.
