A new Gallup Poll shows a complete reversal in people's attitudes in
drilling for oil in protected areas. Also there was a complete
reversal in their attitude towards oil companies. Now they blame
Congress for the high gas prices, and not the oil companies. Very
rarely, in three short years, has there been such a complete reversal
in a Gallup Poll. Once people actually felt the pain of Democrat
policies, they very quickly rejected the Democrat policies. Also in
the poll they rejected a gas rationing scheme that Obama may implement
once he becomes President. Also they rejected hands down, the new
Lieberman/Warner global warming gas tax, that would lump more federal
taxes on a gallon of gas. I think people rightly believe this has
nothing to do with global warming, and has everything to do with
trying to recapture lost revenues to the Federal Government due to the
decrease in driving due to high gas prices. It's the same scheme they
did when the consumption of cigarettes dropped, but the government was
so hooked on bonanza of revenue that smokers gave them, they had to
constantly raise the tax on cigarettes to make up the difference. The
feds don't give a rats ass about you smoking yourself to death, or the
health of the planet, it's all about money to Washington. If people
really think President Obama is going to reverse those revenue
streams, back to the people from Washington, I have bridge across the
Sea of Cortez I want to sell them. |

Oops, you lied. They don't blame Congress. In fact those who blame
"government involvement" is down from 9% to 7%.

"Ironically, the intensity with which Americans see oil companies as "gas
price villains" may be fading a little, according to opinions respondents
volunteered in a new Gallup Poll, conducted May 19-21. Over the past year,
the percentage of Americans blaming the oil companies for skyrocketing gas
prices fell from 34% to 20%; the percentage pointing to oil refinery
problems fell from 16% to 9%; and those attributing the increase in prices
to problems in the Middle East and the Iraq war fell from 13% to 8%. On the
other hand, the percentage of Americans suggesting prices are increasing as
a result of the economic forces of supply and demand increased from 10% to
15%, while 6% now point to speculators and 4% to the shrinking value of the
dollar and the poor U.S. economy -- both new reasons not even mentioned a
year ago. More Americans also mention crude oil prices, the shortage of oil
supplies, and U.S. dependency on foreign oil."

I'd like to take this opportunity to go on record as saying I don't
blame congress. I blame the president, because he's the one who
started the war in Iraq! |

Nothing in the poll substantiates the claim that most Americans
blame congress for gas prices. In fact it shows a whopping 7 percent
blame the government in general, For a slow thinker like spamantha
"government' means congress and the president so it is reasonable to
assume that less than 7 percent blame congress. Hint: 7 percent is far
short a majority .
Poor spammy, she is so down and out that she aspires to be trailer

There's NO rational profit to americans to pay WORLD
prices for our OWN oil
Once given the permits, the drilling rights, the oil is
then owned by foriegn oil companies. It is sold to us
at World market prices.
The Benefit is solely the Oil companies who own the
refineries and sell-----they don't have to absorb the
shipping costs----they pocket the profit.
Even IF a totally American operation would drill, pump
and refine the oil---we'd Still pay the SAME price.

Man, you're stupid for agreeing with the FileDud
What possible profit for Americans is it to drill in
ANWAR?
Whether it's a barrel of Saudi Oil, Mexican oil, or
American oil---the price is the same.
The difference in shipping costs is pocketed by the
foriegn oil companies who drill, pump and refine our
own oil
Or did you thing BP Oil was "beyond petroleum" and not
British Petroleum"?
