|
|
from time to time someone arises in the newsgroups with a condemnation
pointed at everyone not keeping the Saturday Sabbath as ' they ' do.
these even go so far as to pronounce a judgement of hell fire against
all those not seeing the subject their way.
we turn our attention to Scripture therefore to see what the Sabbath
is all about...and which day of the week the Sabbath really is.
in Ex. 20:8 we read... " Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. "
here the word Sabbath simply means ' to repose; to rest '. and this
is the case for we read on to find...
Ex 20:10 " but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor
your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your
stranger who is within your gates.
Ex 20:11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the
sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore
the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. "
the Lord simply says ' you shall do no work '. that addresses, in
part, of what is to be followed by believers on the Sabbath.
now what is a believer told to do on the Sabbath according to
Scripture?
" If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your
pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day
of the LORD honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words,
Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; And I will cause you to
ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of
Jacob your father. The mouth of the LORD has spoken." Is. 58:13, 14
here it is plainly stated that the believer is to " delight himself in
the Lord. " ... " to keep justice and do righteousness " on the
Sabbath Is. 56:1-7
it can not be argued that the Sabbath was not part of the 10
Commandments given to Moses. ( Ex. 20:8 ) how then did the Christian
worshiping on the First Day of the week break this
Commandment of God ?
he didn't.
we are commanded by the words of God Himself to " love the LORD your
God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and
with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. And the
second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
There is no other commandment greater than these." Mk.12:30, 31
this is exactly what the regenerate believer does on the Sabbath.
regardless of the day of the week, this is what the regenerate
believer is commanded to do, and he is to do so everyday of his life.
1 Cor.15:58 Heb.13:15 1 Thes. 5:15-19
so how is it that we assemble on the Fist Day of the week to do as an
assembly what we are commanded to do everyday of the week for all our
lives?
we assemble on the First Day of the week simply because our salvation
was made possible by the Resurrection of our most beloved Blessed
Savior Jesus Christ who rose from the dead, on Sunday. Lk. Chapter 24
the single most important event in all of Christendom is the
Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. His resurrection is the
fulfillment of Gen. 3:15 and countless other prophecies including
Saturday Sabbath keeping in the Law. Jesus fulfilled the Law
( Mt. 5:17 ) and thus made it possible for sinners to be cleansed of
all unrighteousness. Heb. 8:12
He made the chosen ones acceptable to God by carrying their sins to
the cross and by His Resurrection completed salvation for the chosen
ones. He is the Living God. without Jesus being raised from the dead
we have no salvation and we are yet in our sins.
He conquered the devil who had the power of death. ( Heb. 2:14 )
and now Death is in His hand. Rev. 1:18
by His Resurrection, those who are saved have been raised with Him
( Ro. 6:4,5 Col. 2:12,13 ) to be partakers with Him in His Kingdom
2 Pet. 1:1-4 1 Joh. 3:2 Eph. 1:14,18 on a Sunday.
He is ever present to make intercession for His saints. Heb. 7:25
He is the Light of the world ( Joh. 8:12 ) which He made on the first
day of the week, Sunday. Jesus is " the true Light which gives
light to every man " Joh. 1:9 He is called in Scripture
" the Sun of Righteousness " Mal. 4:2
for these reasons and more we come together as a family to worship our
God in Spirit and in Truth on Sunday, the Lord's Day, the day Jesus
Christ rose from the dead.
there is no New Testament restriction concerning Sunday worship.
Sunday was begotten by the early Christians as the day of gathering
together as a profession of faith by grace and not of works as do
Saturday gatherings imply.
Jesus Christ is Lord of the Sabbath Mt.12:8
it is the hope of the sons of Satan to deny Christ by their words and
by their deeds... one deed is designed to find just cause to boast of
Law keeping as the means to salvation... of which Saturday alleged
worship hopes to prove.
devoid of the Holy Spirit, these harp on one subject time and time
again... Saturday church attendance. these seek justification by
works so of this they boast in outward observable deeds... going to
their place of alleged worship. these are blind to see they are but
false witnesses of the very 10 Commandments they boast in being
perfect performers of... |

Before I post comments below, let me preface what I have to say by the
following:
Jesus said it Himself countless times in the scripture that we are not
to judge, for in the same manner we judge on earth, we shall be judged
in Heaven. Concerning the Sabbath in particular, Paul the Apostle
himself writes several times not to judge for keeping of the Sabbath.
With all that said, I offer the following responses below, in hopes that
they may be taken to heart and bring Glory to our Lord, and offer these
responses by His grace alone.

These people aren't Christian. Did not Jesus say "Forgive them, Father,
for they know not what they do" If this be the case, and you really are
deceived into believing and keeping the Sabbath incorrectly, than Jesus
will forgive you for your ignorance. For sin did not enter into this
world without first the knowledge of sin, which is the knowledge of good
and evil.

Even the Pharissee's did no work on the Sabbath, but did they keep it
Holy? Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, even though that very act
might be considered work? My point with this is that we were not just
commanded to rest and be with our Lord, but that we were asked to keep
the day that He set aside holy.
Please also note that we were not asked to make the Sabbath day Holy,
simply to keep it Holy, for He already sanctified it, and made it Holy.

Agreed. This is also written in Matthew. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy
God with all thy heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang ALL
THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS." (KJV Matthew 22:37-40, emphasis added).
Well, we all can agree, our Lord asked us to not just keep the Sabbath,
but to Remember it (kind of funny how this is the only commandment we
remember, yet it is so frequently forgotten), and that it is to be the
seventh day according to the commandment.
If we are to love our God with all our heart, mind, body, and soul; and
if all the law and prophets hang on this and one other commandment, than
even keeping the sabbath hangs on this one commandment. Thus, do not
keep the sabbath, whatever day you decide to keep it, unless it is out
of love of our God.

I agree that He is to be loved and workshipped everyday. However,

Saturday gatherings imply no such thing. Nor do Sunday gatherings, for
that matter. First of all, the Sabbath is a day of rest, and yet you
would say that by keeping that day of rest we're putting ourselves under
works. By resting we're putting ourselves under works? That's like
calling black white.
With that said, the early Christians (being the disciples
and Paul the apostle) did keep the sabbath on the seventh day. As
Christianity spread, however, it gave rise to the abomination of
religion that was Catholicism, with all its extra-biblical doctrines and
dogma, and in this abomination was both the letter and the spirit of the
law cast aside.
Please note that this isn't to condemn Catholics, for many of them are
good people, and I'm sure I'll see a lot of them in Heaven. In fact, my
Brother-in-law is a Catholic. However, just as Jesus did hate the
religion that had evolved in the ranks of the Pharisees and yet still
loved the people who followed the Pharisees, so do I have a disdain for
certain religious practices seperate from my love for those people who
may participate in such practices.
Finally, some biblical quotes to reference:
"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend by one point, he
is guilty of all." (KJV, James 2:10). Umm...Sabbath, last I checked,
was part of the whole law.
"What doth it profit, my bretheren, though a man say he hath faith, and
have not works? can faith save him?" (KJV, James 2:14). This isn't to
say works will get you into Heaven, for it won't, but see below.
"If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one
of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled,
notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the
body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is
dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have
works, shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my
faith by my works. Though believest that there is one God; thou doest
well: the devels also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain
man, that faith without works is dead?" (KJV, James 2:15-20)
In other words, this fear of falling into the doctrine of works is
ludicrous. While works will not get you into Heaven, if one has faith,
than such faith will provide works if such opportunity presents itself.
If the opportunity does arise for the faith to bare works, and faith
still stands alone and produces no works, than such faith is simply an
offspring of vain worship.
I could go on, but to do so would be to digress onto the tangent
concerning the relationship between faith and works, which this
multi-posted/cros-posted thread was not designed to do.
