Blasts rock Iraq peace conference
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Three mortar bombs exploded near the Iraqi foreign
ministry on Saturday, causing slight damage to the building as it
hosted a peace conference of 16 world and regional powers.
Iraqi soldiers carrying shards of shrapnel from the scene said that
the rounds hit a building less than 50 metres (yards) from the ministry.
At almost exactly the same time as the mortar attack a powerful car
bomb exploded near a restaurant three kilometres (two miles) away in
Shiite east Baghdad, killing at least four civilians and wounding 10.
